Implant-Supported Dentures Cost

There are several elements that affect the overall cost of implant-supported dentures. The final price of treatment will depend on the health of your teeth, gums, and jaw as well as the quality of the restoration you receive. The size of your restoration is also a factor, as a full denture requires more implant posts than a partial. In addition, the experience of your dentist and the area in which you live can alter how much your implant-supported dentures cost. A complete set of custom dentures can cost between $1,500 and $4,000 when fabricated from porcelain. However, keep in mind that this price excludes any preparatory procedures, implant placement, and sedation.

Factors Affecting Cost

The cost is affected by the number of implants placed and the quality of the denture.

Number of Implants

The number of implants you need will play a large role in the cost of treatment. In general, six to eight implants are required to support a full denture. However, some dentists now offer All-on-4®. Using this innovative technique, four strategically placed implant posts can support a full denture. A partial denture can be supported with fewer posts.

Implant Type

Traditional implants typically cost between $1,600 and $2,200 per implant. Mini dental implants are slightly less expensive than traditional implants and tend to cost about $500 to $1,500 each. Traditional dental implants are wider than minis and offer the highest level of stability, especially for larger restorations.

In some cases, dentures can be supported by only four implant posts.

However, some patients do not have sufficient bone density to support a large implant. In these cases, minis allow a wider range of patients to receive an implant-supported denture. It is important to keep in mind that while mini dental implants are the more inexpensive option, they do not provide the same level of support and are more likely to require replacement in the future.

Preparatory Procedures

Patients with underlying oral health concerns, such as decay or gum disease, will likely need treatment for these issues before receiving dental implants. In addition, some patients require bone grafts to improve the density of their jawbone and better support implant posts. These types of preparatory procedures are generally not included in the base price of an implant-supported denture and will increase your overall treatment cost. A bone grafting procedure can cost between $600 and 2,600.

The cost of your implant-supported denture can range significantly based on the quality of denture you choose.

Denture Quality

The cost of your implant-supported denture can range significantly based on the quality of the denture you choose. Low-end dentures are available for as little as $300. However, an inexpensive denture will not offer the same level of comfort, stability, or aesthetics. For a more attractive and durable denture, you can pay as much as $5,000.

Choosing an Experienced Dentist

Generally, the dentist you choose will play a large role in both the success and cost of treatment. A more experienced and reputable dentist will often charge more than other providers. However, when receiving an implant-supported denture, it is especially important to select a dentist or surgeon with a track record of success. When your implants are correctly placed, there is a lower chance of implant failure. This can save you from expensive replacements in the future.

Financing and Insurance

Many dental insurance companies still do not provide coverage for treatment with dental implants. In general, patients are required to cover the cost of implant treatment themselves. However, traditional dentures are often covered, at least partially, by insurance. Be sure to check your benefits before beginning treatment.

For patients who are not covered, there are a variety of third-party financing options that can help you manage out-of-pocket expenses. Companies such as CareCredit® offer low interest financing plans to ensure you receive the treatment you need.

Invest in Your Smile

Dental implants are the only method of tooth replacement that protect the health of your jawbone. If you need to replace most or all of your teeth, an implant-supported denture is an excellent way to restore the health and appearance of your smile.
