Our Digital Impressions Offer Many Benefits

/

Traditional dental impressions are goopy, gag-inducing, and inefficient. We use digital impressions to enhance both patient comfort and the accuracy of our dentistry.

Dental Crown Treatment Timeline

To provide you with a restoration that best meets your individual needs and goals, our dentists offer traditional dental crowns hand-crafted in the USA from porcelain, IPS e.max, and zirconia. While every case is different, generally, placing a dental crown includes:

Treatment from start to finish takes about four weeks.
Treatment from start to finish takes about four weeks.

Initial Examination

One of our gentle dentists will conduct an exam to determine if a dental crown is the best treatment option to improve your oral health. We will discuss the advantages of each respective material we offer so that you can make an educated decision before moving forward with your new dental crown.

Tooth Preparation

After removing the damaged or decayed portions of the affected tooth, your dentist will reshape and resize the remaining tissue to create a base for a temporary crown and your new restoration.

Impressions

We will take impressions of your teeth to forward to our dental laboratory. This allows a skilled lab technician to craft a dental crown that fits perfectly in your smile. Following impressions, your dentist will place a porcelain temporary crown over the prepared tooth to protect it while your new restoration is being made.

Fabrication

It takes a few weeks for an expert ceramicist to carefully handcraft your new dental crown. During fabrication, the ceramicist will apply hand-finishing details to your restoration to ensure it fits perfectly with your surrounding teeth.

Permanent Crown Placement

Once we receive your permanent crown, your dentist will remove your temporary crown before test fitting your new restoration. Any adjustments to your permanent crown will be made to ensure a seamless fit and optimal function. Once you and your dentist are happy with the fit of your new crown, it will be secured in place with dental cement.

Final Restoration

There is no downtime following the final placement of your new crown. You may experience sensitivity in the area, but this typically resolves itself in a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns in Vernon, CT

How Long Will My Crown Last?

A crown typically lasts for approximately 15 years, making it one of the best dental investments you can make. Crowns paired with dental implants have a slightly longer lifespan, and the implant itself will last a lifetime. If you're receiving crowns as part of a dental bridge, it's important to know that bridges last around 10 years with good care.

Why Not Just Pull the Tooth?

Some patients mistakenly believe pulling a severely damaged or decayed tooth is smarter than saving it. This is not usually the case. An extraction can lead to more dental issues later on, such as jawbone weakening that endangers even more teeth. Furthermore, while our restorations are incredibly durable, nothing can completely mimic a natural tooth.
